Southwest International understands that no matter how much driving experience you may have, navigating a truck down the highway can be an incredibly nerve-wracking experience. Drivers are increasingly anxious and impatient, weaving in and out of traffic leaving little to or no distance between vehicles to stop safely. Distracted drivers operating vehicles while on their phones is an immense danger today. To help fight the stress of highway traffic, collision mitigation systems are now standard on heavy-duty International vehicles to help give you and your drivers more peace of mind and increased safety.

Bendix™ Wingman® Fusion™

Bendix™ Wingman® Fusion™ comes standard on the International LT Series, RH Series, and Lonestar trucks. Bendix™ Wingman® Advanced™ and Wabco OnGuardACTIVE™ are available to customers as well. The Bendix Wingman Fusion system includes a radar with adaptive cruise control and braking, a camera that works with the radar, and can apply about two-thirds of the available braking power to the vehicle and pulse air back to the trailer brakes. Because this system can determine the obstruction sooner than other systems, it can reduce the speed at impact by 35 mph rather than 25 mph compared to the Bendix Wingman Advanced system.

The camera included in the Bendix Wingman Fusion system detects the paint stripes on the road, then activating an audible warning for drivers when it detects lane drifting without an active turn signal. Drivers then take corrective action.

Bendix™ Blind Spot Detection

Bendix™ Blind Spot Detection is available on International LT Series and RH Series. This system uses side-facing radar to monitor the vehicle surroundings and alert the drivers of their blindspot when necessary.

With the help of Bendix Collision Mitigation radar-based systems, International vehicles show the potential to reduce rear-ends collisions by 70%. Between 2004 and 2008, 28% of total unique car crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles could have potentially been avoided or the severity reduced with the safety features we now have.

International’s DriverFirst philosophy has been no secret and Southwest International continues to put your drivers and your business above all else. The use of Bendix collision mitigation systems is just another way we’re proving it.
